Fundraiser, Work and Dinner with Friends

Today started a little early for us. We left at 7:10 so we could help serve at the Habitat for Humanity breakfast fundraiser. It started at 8:30 and we had 25 tables to take care of. Devin, our volunteer coordinator did a great job of keeping us moving with the right order of food and drink out to the guests.
The keynote speaker was Henry Cisneros, former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in the Clinton administration.
It was a great success with almost 200 attendees. Habitat de Santa Fe hoped to raise $90,000 so they could finance another house. Initial tallies were well over $140,00. It was quite a success. The Executive Director of Santa Fe Habitat for Humanity (in the turquoise dress with Mr. Cisneros and another gentlemen) did quite a job on this!

Later in the morning, we went to the Oshara Village job site and did some work before lunch. The new house is really coming along. After lunch, Pam and I were assigned to go downtown to another home and finish up some work on the porch and the fence. We were glad to do it and we worked with Eliza, a volunteer construction supervisor.
Later in the evening, we had dinner at Tomasita's - another great choice for Mexican food in Santa Fe. Mike and Debbie, Bob and Annetta, and Pam and I had a great time over dinner catching up a bit.Tomorrow will be our last work day in Santa Fe with Habitat for Humanity. It has been a real good time here for us working, meeting new people and re-connecting with friends. We look forward to more time volunteering on future Habitat projects.

Thanks for checking out the Roadrunner Chronicles. Be sure and leave a comment~we'd love to hear from you.

  2. Hi Randy and Pam,
Just gotta love that Habitat - we too enjoy working with the RV Care-A-Vanners and will be joining with a group in Bunnell, Florida in January. Hope to do more builds in the future. Anyway, Randy, please email us from our site as the address that we have for you is no longer up to date - thanks. Hope to meet up with you guys somewhere down the road, maybe at a HFH build - that would be fun.
