Seeing Friends in Casa Grande, AZ

We contacted Steve and Karen and drove 80 miles from Tucson to their place in Casa Grande.  The temperatures here cooled down some from the high 70's of last week to the low 60's but it was a beautiful day.

We were meeting them at 11:30 AM but first wanted to check out the Escapees Rovers RV Park on the other side of town.  It was the original Escapees Park and pretty bare bones.  We drove through and took a few pictures.
After our 'drive by', we went over to see Steve and Karen.  They are spending the winter at the Park Creek Golf and RV Resort.    What a nice place!

We hung outside for a while and chatted before going to lunch.  Karen picked a new local restaurant: Creative Cafe.  She was struck by their mission statement: "...providing work and learning opportunities for mentally and physically challenged adults since 1987 " plus, it got some good ratings on Yelp and Trip Advisor.
It was crowded so that was a good sign.  It was not too flashy on the outside and inside it had a good atmosphere.  We got a table in the back and ordered sandwiches and salad.
It was very good and we enjoyed it there.  A home run all the way around.  Then karma hit.  Got caught in one of those random shots.  Of all the hundreds of shots I've taken of people over the years...the shoe was on the other foot so to speak.
Then a better one
After lunch we got a tour of the grounds at Palm Creek.  The first thing we noticed when we drove into the resort was the nice grounds and the golf course.  It looks like a fun Executive Par 3 course that is well groomed and maintained.  And then the flowers.
Can you ever how too many bright and colorful flowers?  I don't think so.
We started the tour over at the community center/activities building.  Lots of bikers there.  And lots of things to do.
We walked past the library and pool room and mail room to the well stocked pro shop with golf, tennis and pickle ball equipment and clothing.
Then out to the pool and patio area.  Pretty large facility and some folks in the pool.
Then over to the fitness center, weight room and sewing center.  Lots going on in there and 15-20 kinds of sewing machines.
Then over to the bowling green/bocce ball grounds.  Friendly folks and free lessons on Tuesday and Thursdays...
Next, we took a drive over to the wood shop.
Another nice facility with some major league equipment.  And then a tour around the park.  The neighborhoods are a mix of RVs, park models and small modular homes.
All of it is very well done and blends well together from street to street.

We went over to the ball fields where some gents were finishing up.  And past the exercise park for the dogs.
And then over to the pickle ball courts.
Lots of activity going on there with some nice new and lighted courts.  Steve showed me the very organized roster and playing schedule which makes it easy for folks to signup and play as often as they want to.
I can see why they play pickleball a lot.  It looks like a lot of fun.  Great way to get some exercise, meet some people and stay active.
After drive around the property, we when back to their site for some home made chocolate cream pie.   It was excellent and a nice way to top off our visit.  It was great to see them and see why they like it so much out here at Casa Grande.

That was another day on the Roadrunner Trail...
Thanks for joining us!

  8. That RV park was a small city. We rarely stay at the "park" kind, but this one sure had everything for everyone!
