Volunteers in Mission - Greensburg

We had seven work assignments in Greensburg, Kansas involving residents who requested help.

Our task was to sheet rock the basement of a house. The basement will be used as daycare after it is finished. Pam and I were with a team of 6 or 7 other folks including my high school friend Kirk. We worked from Thursday afternoon until Saturday afternoon and made a lot of progress.
Most of the work entailed finishing around windows and the basement stairway. Kirk and Pam finished putting wall board up along the concrete wall and stairway that required a lot of angles and a heavy dose of industrial strength glue. It turned out well.

Another project was installing a garage door opener for a homeowner named Janet. That sounded easy enough but wasn't. It provided plenty of frustration for Larry and Chad and Lonny but they also got that job done. The First United Methodist Church at Greensburg was a great facility. Most of the team was housed there and we ate all but one meal at the church. We had plenty of good times getting to know each other around the food preparation and consumption.
On Saturday night we decided to contract with a local BBQ place for ribs, shredded port with beans, potato salad and German chocolate cake. It was the best I have had in a long time and a another way to support a local business. We lined up for another photo before we went back to the church for the evening. As you can see here, it was a good looking crew.

Our time in Greensburg concluded after the morning worship service. We said our goodbyes and hope to meet up with these folks on another VIM effort. It was a great time with great people and why we love doing these things.
