Adventures on Roadrunner Laundry Day

Saturday was wash day at our house.  Like always, we got the clothes and such out of the basket and sorted it before we took it to the washers and driers.  Since we don't have one in the Roadrunner, we use a laundromat (or Joan's or Kelly's or the washers/dryers at the campground).
We don't have a washer and dryer in the Roadrunner, but we have the plumbing/hookups if we ever want to install one.
So today - we were off to the laundromat.  I found some on my iPhone and went to one that was a little rough looking.  So we proceeded to another one.  I was a little suspect when we ended up in an industrial area and then to the front door of the offices of 1 Stop Laundry.
We then found a Soap and Suds downtown.  It was a little crowded and required us to use payment cards (as tokens) which we needed to purchase.  So we continued on until we found a nice place nearby - a 1 Stop Laundry.  It was clean and not too crowded.  Plus there was a convenient store nearby for coffee and a donut.
Pam's first choice of washers was occupied, so she used a couple of other ones.
So -- it took us a couple of hours and $10 to do our laundry.  Some would say - too much hassle -- they'd rather have the washer and dryer in their RV.
We prefer the space and don't might doing it this way.

How about you?  Do you have a washer/dryer in your RV?

Thanks for joining us today on the Roadrunner Chronicles!  Until next time...

  1. I do have a washer dryer and wouldn't give it up for all the space in the world :) It is just too convenient, not to mention cleaner than a laundromat. Besides, if I had all that extra cabinet space I'd find more stuff to put in there!

  2. Yes I do. We had one already installed when we bought our Class A a few years ago. Fell in love with it and when we sold that and bought our 5er, I said there was absolutely NO WAY I was going without one. I know it takes up valuable space but after seeing the 'occupied washer' in your photo I'll gladly give up the space not to have to see one of those!!!!!!

  3. Nope, we don't have one in our unit and we don't want to get one either. Like you we have always used campground machines or found a laundromat and sometimes I have even done them by hand depending on where we are. You can also meet some interesting people by going to the laundromat!

  4. We don't have a washer and dryer either. The cabinet where it belongs is a perfect place for the vacuum and the clothes hamper. Don't really mind going to laundry and getting it all done at one time.

  5. Yes, we have a W/D in our rig and would not be without one. The comments in your blog today seem to make our case.

  6. We have a W/D as well ... and like others who have commented, wouldn't be without it. We still have plenty of storage all around the Phaeton, so we don't miss the storage that the W/D cabinet would have otherwise afforded.

  7. I love our W/D! People tried to talk me out of one and I held firm. I am so happy that I did. Now wish I had a dishwasher!!

  8. Yep, we have one in our motor home - and we love it for the convenience. We also have access to free washer/dryers where we work. We use ours for lighter laundry and use the work facilities for sheets jeans and towels.

  9. On our previous MH, we did not have one. A day at a campground that had six washers and six dryers, with only one of the six dryers working and five people in front of me waiting for that one dryer made a w/d a top priority for our next MH.

Now that we have the new MH with the w/d, we'd never be without one again. Nice to throw a load in in the morning and be able to head out for the day. When returning, the wash is clean and dry. So convenient.

To reinforce our choice of a w/d, when we were making a fast cross country trip last winter and had blacktopped boondocked for most of a week, we used a campground laundry to wash our clothes during a one night stay. While there, I observed another camper bring in filthy, dirty floor mats from a pickup truck and wash them and dry them in the machines. With our w/d, I know what has been washed in it.

  10. We rarely stay at a full hook up campground...and we aren't full-timers..If we were, we probably would still do without and use laundromats. If I had opened that washer to Mr. Roach, we would have found another laundromat...YIKES!

  11. Love ours and was told we wouldn't be without it. My story and I'm sticking to it. :)

  12. When we were full-timers in our 40' Phaeton, we had a washer/dryer. Now that we are part-timers, I am dreading our upcoming 3 month trip in our 24' MH because we will have to use washer/dryers along the way. Your photo of the roach in the washer just confirmed why I hate Laundromats. Yuck. Guess I'm in for a big change.

  13. I love your simple everyday laundromat story. Something most of us can identify with. I must say I've never come across an "occupied" washer as such, but some need a good cleaning. I've often thought about writing about our various laundromat adventures. Glad you did.
